In 1938 Achille Gaggia patented the first espresso machine. His innovation moved away from steam and used water call espresso. By highly pressurizing the water his machine produced a richer drink with the crema we associate with espresso.
That heritage lives today. Gaggia produces some of the best respected automatic espresso machines and manual espresso machines available anywhere.

Gaggia is headquartered outside Milan in Robecco sul Naviglio. Its parent company is Philips Saeco S.p.A. Which was bought by the Dutch multinational giant Philips.
