The Appia is Nearly Perfect. But Not Perfect for Everyone
The Nuova Simonelli Appia was the third Nuova Simonelli espresso machine to receive both a 5 star review and an Editor’s Choice award.
This is a commercial quality machine. It is powerful and durable enough for a small to mid volume coffee shop a restaurant or as an amazing addition to a very discerning home.
The Appia has very similar internal systems to their commercial products. Nuova Simonelli espresso makers have some of the best boiler technology So you get some of the very best brewing and milk frothing and steaming available. So for commercial uses it is a fantastic choice.
But, this is also for people who want to know how to make espresso right. A semi-automatic is not as forgiving as a super automatic. So you have to be something of a barista to get the best out of it.
At $3450 this is not cheap for a semi automatic espresso maker. This costs more than 18 of our 20 best super automatic espresso machines.
[Editor’s Note: As of this writing we have not seen US Pricing on any of the Gaggia Cadorna models but we don’t expect any to cost more than the Appia.]
The top super automatics allow you to press a button and get near flawless espresso and espresso based milk drinks every time. So there is a tradeoff to consider.
Is an Appia Good For Home Use?
One person we talked to compared it to sports cars. There are sports cars that drive very much like regular passenger cars but also have all the joys of a sports car. But, real car nuts love the super cars that drive more like stripped down race cars and those also tend to be the fastest performers. So you can have the best performance or lots of easy to use features.
Model MAPPIA5SEM01 is available in a bundle with a free espresso starter kit and a 3M water filter system. optional autosteam wand allows anyone to make thick and velvety milk-based drinks, always at the same temperature with the proper amount of foam. 120 pounds 27 x 29 x 19
The Nuova Simonelli Appia isn’t the right choice for every home user. But, it undoubtedly makes amazing espresso and is a durable, beautiful piece at a price many home baristas can afford.
