Gaggia has a lot of great models available. This Gaggia Cadorna Review and Buyers Guide will tell you everything you need to know about the new Cadorna line, it’s four models and how it compares to other Gaggia products.
Achille Gaggia grew up working in his family’s Milan coffee bar. In 1938 he patented the first espresso machine which used pressurized water instead of steam to create what we call espresso. Expressing coffee in this way produces a richer, thicker coffee with higher caffeine levels and a rich, creamy crema.
Gaggia is still headquartered in Robecco sul Naviglio outside of Milan but is owned by Philips Saeco S.p.A, a division of the Dutch giant Philips.
Gaggia Cadorna Review 2020
Cadorna Prestige, Cadorna Milk and Cadorna Plus and Cadorna Style
The Gaggia Cadorna line has a few really interesting things going for it. First, the brewing technology is all really good.
All four of the Cadorna automatic espresso machine models supports four different user profiles. Each user profile stores custom settings so each member of your family (up to four anyway) can customize their drinks.
Third, all Cordanas utilize a beautiful new screen. The new thin-film-transistor liquid-crystal display (TFT LCD) offers rich colors and responsive controls.
The Gaggia Cadorna line was released in 2019 and is currently available in Europe and some other markets but is not yet available in the United States or Canada.
If you plan to buy now consider our Editors Choice JURA Z8 or the Gaggia Anima. Both are excellent machines at very different price points. You can also see all Gaggia models available direct from Gaggia in their Amazon store.
The Four Cadorna Models
Gaggia has released four models in the Cadorna line for 2020. Cadorna Prestige, Cadorna Milk and Cadorna Plus and Cadorna Style
The Gaggia Cadorna automatic espresso machine models vary significantly in their prices, uses and features. Gaggia plans to market all four models worldwide and the controls are similar across the line and support 17 languages.
The Cadorna Prestige is the premium model It offers the most settings and control. The main difference is that it has a fully built in milking carafe and better milk frothing.
The Gaggia Cadorna Milk shares a lot of features with the Prestige. However the milk carafe sits next to the unit and the milk pours through a spout.
The third model has a Stainless Steel Pannarello arm for milk has 6 drink programs.
The Gaggia Cadorna Style is the lowest price of the Cadornas. It has a plastic Pannarello arm. It has all the same features and capacity of the Plus but the machine itself is a bit smaller. It also makes the same drinks as the Plus.
Preset Drink Options
The Cadorna models have preset programs to make between 6 and 16 drinks at the push of a button. The Cadorna Prestige has 16 different drink combinations. The Cadorna Milk makes 10. And, the Cadorna Plus and Cadorna Style each make 6 drinks at the push of a button.
The Cadorna Prestige and Cadorna Milk models will make Caffe, Americanos, Cappuccino, Macchiato, Café Au Lait, Latte Macchiato and Frothed Milk which the Plus and Style do not.
You need the Prestige to make Caffee Macchiato XL and Cappuccino XL, Flat White and Cortado.

Where to Buy The Cadorna
We have not seen official announcement of pricing for the US or Canada yet. Most of the other models are available from them on their own Amazon store and we expect the full Cadorna line will be offered there. Until then consider the Gaggia Accademia vs Babila. Both are amazing machines.
As of this writing the Gaggia Cadorna automatic espresso machines line is not yet available in the US or Canada. We will update this as soon as that information is available including links to where you can buy the Cadorna products. In the meanwhile, we are including their pricing in Great British Pounds along with the equivalent amount in US dollars at the current exchange rate. This does not suggest that the converted amounts reflect likely dollar pricing, but we think does provide a tool for comparison.
- Cadorna Prestige Pricing: 899 GBP which converts to about $1150 USD
- Cadorna Milk Pricing: 849 GBP which is about $1100 USD
- Cadorna Plus Pricing: 649 GBP which is about $850 USD
- Cadorna Style Pricing: 579 GBP which is about $750 USD
- Accademia 1003380: 1195 GBP. It is available on Amazon for about $1650

Cadorna Brewing Features
The Prestige comes preset with the ability to make 14 drinks. This is more drinks than the Milk or Plus lines. The Plus and Style make the same 6 drinks. Gaggia Cadorna Review and Buyers Guide concludes that this is a strength of the line.
All of the Gaggia Cadorna models have excellent coffee brewing. All has 15 bar pumps which provides the right level of pressure to produce great crema and rich, think espresso. They all use the same type of quick heat boiler. All will brew two cups simultaneously and all have similar coffee temperature control.
Gaggia Cadorna Review: Grinding
All three have 10 levels five levels of Optiaroma, grinders and the Gaggia Adaptive System. The GAS adjusts to settings to the grind the correct granularity for the best brew.
Milk & Microfoam
The biggest differences between the Cadorna models is their milk systems.
The Prestige has an integrated milk carafe which sits on the front of the machine. The Cadorna Milk has a funnel that is awkwardly called the “Capp In Cup” that pours the foam directly into the cup from a side mounted milking system. Both systems draw milk from the milk reservoir and steam and inject air into it before it it poured into your drink cup. You don’t have to move the cup when frothing and steaming milk for espresso milk drinks.
Cadorna Plus and Style Pannarello Wands
We recommend that you buy an automatic espresso machine with a built in milk system and not a Pannarello Wand. You have seen Pannarello Wands at every coffee shop. Whenever you see a barista making your milk foam by moving around a metal pitcher the Pannarello Wand is the thing sticking into the pitcher.
This sure look like the authentic experience but there are three reasons to go with an automatic milk system instead of a Pannarello Wand.
First, most people will never be able to make really great microfoam consistently at home. It takes practice and machines just make higher quality and more consistent steamed milk and foam.
Second, cleaning a Pannarello wand is a pain, although arguably so is cleaning a milking system if the automatic cleaning isn’t great.
Finally, it adds steps and cleanup, maintenance. You dont care about that at a coffee shop because someone else is doing the work. But at home, Pannarello Wands are three things that tend to make espresso machine owners skip using their machine and hit the Starbucks drive through. So pay the extra money for an integrated milking system and save on those lower quality, $6 drinks.
The Plus has a Stainless Steel Pannarello but the Style’s is plastic. Our Gaggia Cadorna review deducts points for these decisions. We want the machine to last for decades like a Gaggia Brera, Gaggia Babila or Gaggia Anima will. These machines are an investment in the future.
Gaggia Cadorna Review: Maintenance & Cleaning
All four models of Gaggia Cadorna models have similar bean, water and spent coffee puck (a disk of used grounds) capacity. All have automatic coffee system rinsing and automatic milk system cleaning and descaling modes.
