Delonghi Eletta Review ECAM44660B

At The Coffee Insider, we review new espresso and coffee makers and we reevaluate favorite machines to compare them to current standards. Our Delonghi Eletta review led this model get a lower review in 2020 than they it did when the De’longhi Eletta model ECAM44660B was first released.

The Eletta costs just under $2000. It delivers great design and a lot of features for the value. But the competition is very tough in the $1500-2000 price range and we concluded that there are better choices.

For comparison, look over our 20 Best Super Automatic Espresso Machines of 2020 list. Specifically, the Gaggia Babila and JURA J90  IMPRESSA are better choices and can be bought a little cheaper.

About Delonghi

De’Longhi (aka Delonghi) is headquartered in Treviso, Italy. The company was founded in 1902 by the De’ Longhi family. The company is a multi-billion-dollar manufacturer food prep and cooking appliances, and home cleaning.

2020 Delonghi Eletta Review

With the De’longhi Eletta ECAM44660B, De’Longhi delivers solid results and good value. It has a lot of positive design elements and packs a lot into a small space for this level of automatic espresso machine.

It has all the features you would like in a machine of this class, as do its competitors. It does everything very well. But we didn’t find anything we thought it did best in class.

The controls and screen look really dated, especially when compared to what companies are going with newer models like the Gaggia Cadorna line of automatic espresso machines.

Since it is a Delonghi it is well designed and made. It has a compact design. The De’longhi Eletta measures 18.4 x 14.2 x 10.2 inches and weighs about 24 pounds.

JURA J90 IMPRESSA is recommended over the 2020 Updated Delonghi Eletta Review ECAM44660B
JURA J90 IMPRESSA is a better buy

Read our 2020 JURA J90 Impressa Review for another top rated espresso machine.

In that relatively small form, you get very good storage capacity. The Eletta ECAM44660B holds 14 ounces (400 g) of whole beans, has a 67-ounce removable water tank and stores 14 pucks of used coffee ground container. All of these are very good. The coffee spouts adjust from 3.5 inches to 5.5 inches.

However, both the Gaggia Babila and JURA J90 IMPRESSA espresso makers look better, have nicer finish, brewed better and produce better milk foam.

De’longhi Eletta Brewing Features

Our 2020 Delonghi Eletta Review concludes that the ECAM44660B brews well but not exceptional. For most beans and brews you may not be able to tell the difference. But for the same money you can buy a great machine that will do better.

De’longhi Eletta Grinding

The Delonghi Eletta Grinder has 13 settings. That’s quite a few. It is pretty quiet and does a solid job with both course and finer grinds.

Microfoam and Milk Steaming

Both the Gaggia and JURA lines produce better milk foam. Our tests showed the De’Longhi LatteCrema System to make good, but a bit sticky, foam and not the silky kind of microfoam that everyone just loves. In any case, our Delonghi Eletta review found that it warmed and steamed milk quickly, better than the Miele CM6350, for example.

De’longhi Eletta Maintenance & Cleaning

The Eletta is reasonably easy to clean and maintain. But, the nozzle inside the milk carafe is harder to clean than we would like to see.

2020 Delonghi Eletta Review ECAM44660B

The Delonghi Eletta is a solid, well designed and efficient little machines. However, its controls are dated, and it doesn’t have the drink options that other automatic espresso machines have. It does everything well but nothing exceptional.

Our 2020 Delonghi Eletta Review compared the system to the better machines available and concludes that you would be better off choosing a comparably priced model from JURA or Gaggia.

So, you can’t go wrong buying the De’longhi Eletta, but you can go ‘right’ choosing a Gaggia Babila and JURA J90 IMPRESSA instead.
