EC 100 Capresso 116.04 Espresso Machine Review for 2020
We strongly suggest you choose the Capresso EC100 if you want a value priced espresso maker that can make the same quality espressos, cappuccinos and lattes as a machine 10x or 20x its cost. This is because this value priced, manual espresso maker includes some of the best technology in the world at the cost of higher end coffee maker.
Capresso is owned by Jura AG, and Jura is one of The Coffee Insider’s most winning espresso machine manufacturer. The Capresso EC100 shares some of the same design choices and much of the internal core brewing technologies with many of its much more expensive JURA branded cousins. It is a little like getting a Corvette engine in a KIA for the price of a KIA, so you better know how to drive, but more on that later.
Capresso EC100 Dual Frother
The Capresso is a manual machine. Unlike a super automatic you use the Capresso’s frothing wand to heat, steam and froth your own milk and the Capresso EC 100 is excellent at it. To be fair, we still always suggest people pay more for a super automatic and get one-touch perfect drink with no human error or extra work.
But if you want a manual machine then the Capresso EC100 will make excellent milk. The Dual Frother is called that because the wand has a Frothing Sleeve that you leave on for cappuccinos. The sleeve allows the steam to pass through but also injects air which helps create the froth you expect to see on many drinks. When you want to make a latte, you remove the Frothing Sleeve, so the Steam Tube directly steams the milk for lattes.
Capresso’s JURA Pedigree
In short, Jura is one of our very favorite brands. It has three machines on our list of the best super automatic espresso machines including the top winner for 2020, the JURA GIGA 6. The Capresso EC100 shares many of the JURAs systems and innovations. But, in spite of the fact that the Capresso EC 100 and other Capresso models share Thermoblocks and other brewing technology with the JURAs the Capresso’s never quite score as high. This is because the design, fit and finish of the Capressos are not quite the same as the JURAs.

Capresso EC100 User Reviews
So, you get all this amazing technology in an inexpensive machine. What are the tradeoffs to a Capresso EC 100? Well looking at the user reviews tells a lot of the story. Unlike Breville vs Delonghi, JURA is not an expert at making lower cost espresso makers. The JURA that one our top super automatic espresso machine for 2020 award costs $6000. Capresso EC100 reviews on Amazon are mixed.
Companies like Breville and Delonghi are experts at making solid, well designed machines for a few hundred US dollars. Capresso takes JURA’s amazing technology and tries to do the same. The result is some issues with Capresso EC100 finish and some complaints about the durability of the EC100. Overall this isn’t a bad tradeoff if you are certain you want to keep the up front purchase price low.
Capresso EC100 Review 2020
The Capresso EC100 espresso machine gives you some of the best espresso maker brewing and milk frothing that JURA produces. You get a lot of great core features that allows someone who knows what they are doing to produce top quality espressos and milk-based espresso drinks.
If you are set on buying an espresso maker and feel confident that all the manual steps won’t dissuade you from using it every day then
Why “Expensive” Espresso Makers Are Not Worth It
Frankly, we don’t ever suggest people buy inexpensive espresso makers and we rarely recommend manual espresso machines too. The Capresso EC 100 is a great machine for the price but, like any manual machine, you have to be willing and able to follow all the steps to produce a great drink.
Manual espresso machines are just not right for most people. You need to consistently and correctly grind the beans, measure the grounds to get a consistent strength, tamp them to just the right firmness, wait for the temperature and pressure to be right, adjust the settings to the type of drink, brew crema rich espresso, make exactly the right maneuvers to froth and steam the right amount of milk with the right froth. Even if you do you are not likely to get better quality than a good super automatic will give you at the press of a button.
The Cost Of Your Daily Starbucks
The most expensive coffee habit is a daily trip to Starbucks. A $4 daily cappuccino costs over $5800 over 4 years. But, buying “inexpensive” machines that you can’t properly clean or maintain that will need to be replaced every 4 years isn’t that cheap either. A great machine from a top company will last a lifetime.
This isn’t a criticism of the Capresso espresso maker. Our Capresso EC100 review concludes that, for its type and price range it is an excellent machine with great brewing technology. But it is important to understand the tradeoffs before you buy.
